Caroline Crouch's husband gave himself away on the day of the murder. Why has it taken Greek police a month to nail him?

Surprise, surprise. The husband did it. Greek police say they have used mobile phone and smartwatch data to solve the murder of Caroline Crouch, but there was no need for that. Charalambos Anagnostopoulos incriminated himself on the day he did it.

He first told police that he had been tied up and blindfolded in his bedroom by intruders, who then went up to the attic, where his wife was sleeping with their baby. But police then revealed to the Proto Thema website that he had told them the masked men had pointed a gun at the baby. He couldn't possibly have seen that, according to his previous account.

Curiously, this discrepancy was not, to our knowledge, picked up at the time or subsequently. We don't know enough about the Elliniki Astynomia to extrapolate from this apparent lacuna in the investigation, though others surely will. And we don't want to seem callous about the terrible ordeal Caroline's family are going through. But we wonder if this case could have been cracked more swiftly, and we can be reached through our Contact button for help in any future police investigation.
